Annual Tournament Report

CWSGA 91st ANNUAL TOURNAMENT
DEERHURST RESORT, HUNTSVILLE ONTARIO
SEPTEMBER 3rd – 7th, 2013

September 5, 2013

National Executive members, Provincial Executive members and members of the CWSGA, it is with great pleasure that I present the Tournament Chair report for our 91st year.

We are returning to Deerhurst Resort 5 years after the 86th Annual Tournament was held here. The welcome, organization and expertise of the golf staff have been exceptional. Director of Golf, Danny Jackson, Highlands Manager, Kyle Dalgleish, Lakeside Manager, Jay White and their entire staff have been instrumental in providing me, as your Tournament Chair, and you, as participants, with a truly memorable experience.

The official Tournament Chair Manual  was rewritten by Ann Pate after last year’s tournament at Manoir Richelieu to update procedures and redefine responsibilities. I want to thank Ann for her amazing work that will stand the test of time for years to come. I will be rewriting and updating the Scoring Manual for the CWSGA computer program over the off season to be added to the Tournament Chair Manual.

137 applications were accepted, New Brunswick 11, Quebec  50, Ontario 76. There was no need for a waiting list this year because of the ability to utilize both the Highlands for Stroke Play and Lakeside for the Stableford competitions. We had 12 cancellations giving us a field of 125. This broke down into 106 in Stroke Play and 19 in Stableford. The Veterans low gross competition had 15 competitors and the Grandmothers low net competition had 51 players.

My job as Tournament Chair would not be possible without the invaluable help of the Organizing Committee consisting of Donna Howell, Chief Score Keeper Extraordinaire , Carroll Baker, Lee Fisher, Gayle Grant, Ginny Green,  Judy Keefe,  Elinor McKergow and Suzanne Miles. They all wore many hats and did wonderful jobs. Thank you ladies it was a pleasure working and, more importantly, having lots of fun with you! Special thanks also go out to Jill Paton, Ontario President and Betsy Swaine, National Treasurer for their wonderful help and support.

It has been a pleasure and an honour to serve as this year’s Tournament Chair.

Respectfully submitted,

Mj. Stewart, Tournament Chair

Mah Jong at Deerhurst

Hi Ladies,

Any ladies who would like to play Mah Jong at Deerhurst, a room will be arranged for play.  Please remember to bring your 2013 cards.

Thank you.

Introducing Len - Goose Manager

Introducing Len
I am very excited to welcome Len to the golf & grounds team at Deerhurst Resort.

Len is a 5 year old, fully (goose management) trained boarder collie, who under the watchful eye of his handler Amanda will be patrolling the grounds at Deerhurst Resort as part of our continued effort to provide a solution to the geese on property.

Len is a working dog and we would ask that if you see him out and about that you not distract him from the task at hand, as tempting as it may be to call him over or want to pet him.
