CWSGA Annual Tournament Results

September 2014

Dear Fellow Members and Friends,

I am very happy to update you on our recent National Tournament at the Chateau Montebello. We had our largest registration in memory, with 155 golfers signed up for stroke play and stableford format at the Chateau Montebello course and the nearby Heritage course. The weatherman was on our side: we enjoyed three days of warmth and sunshine, thus upping the smile quotient for all. At the annual meeting on September 4, the national executive officers from New Brunswick were appointed for the next two years: National President Jennie Duncan, National Treasurer Cherie Henry, and National Secretary Gillian Wallace.

I do wish to congratulate our tournament champion for 2014, Nancy Layton, who turned in two fine rounds of 77 to win the trophy for the third time.

We also welcomed 12 members from the US Senior Women's Golf Association, who joined us to contest the Ann Taylor Green Trophy. The CWSGA team, ably captained by Pam Frost, came out the winner in a very close contest.

Great thanks for a happy and successful tournament to the Quebec Tournament Committee of President Eileen Hamilton, Tournament Chair Gail Blake, Event Co-ordinator and Vice-President Barb Langley, and Prize Chair Greer Gorick. Their committee's attention to detail, and the charming ambiance of Chateau Montebello, made for a wonderful event.

Thanks as well to Barb Moysey, who again produced a video of the tournament. Yes, we did have fun!!! Please click here for a link to her video, and click here for tournament results. Click Here for photos of the Trophy winners.

I hope you have a wonderful fall, and look forward to seeing many of you at our Florida satellite tournament in Fort Myers in February. Lynn Clappison, Betsy Swaine and I thank you for the honour of acting as your National Executive over the past two years.

With best wishes,
  Gail Todgham

92nd Annual Tournament & Meeting

Dear Fellow Members of CWSGA,
We are pleased to Announce our 92nd National Tournament, to be held September 2 – 6, 2014 at the Chateau Montebello, Montebello, Quebec.
The Quebec Executive, together with our National Executive, is working to organize a very special event at this historic resort.   To accommodate our large and enthusiastic membership, we have booked a second golf course, Le Heritage, a short drive from Montebello.  Golf competition in Stroke Play and Stableford will be held on both courses.  All entries to the Annual Tournament will be accepted.
This year we will be hosting 12 members of the United States Senior Women’s Golf Association.  They will be competing against 12 members of the CWSGA in the Ann Taylor Green Trophy competition, a friendly event which has been held regularly between our two organizations for over 60 years.
Please return your tournament registration to Betsy Swaine before June 24, and book your accommodation directly with Fairmont Le Chateau Montebello using the attached registration form.  There will be no refunds after August 1, 2014.
On behalf of National President Gail Todgham, Quebec President Eileen Hamilton, and Tournament Chair Gail Blake, we look forward to seeing everyone at Montebello!

National Spring Letter from Gail Todgham

Dear Friends and Fellow Members,

Welcome to the 92nd year of the Canadian Women’s Senior Golf Association.  We look forward to meeting our newest members, and renewing friendships at our provincial events and at the National Tournament at Montebello in September. Some of you have already celebrated the fellowship of CWSGA at our first satellite tournament, held in early February in Florida.  Congratulations to Jill Paton for organizing a wonderful event.

Our 2013 National Tournament at Deerhurst Resort was a great success, thanks to Ontario President Jill Paton, Tournament Chair Mj Stewart, Prize Chair Mary Wemp, the Ontario executive, and a hard-working committee.  Our founders might have been surprised at members’ attire at the annual meeting and dinner that evening: jeans and tiaras were the order of the day, a far cry from the gowns and jewellery members wore in the early years!

You will find below the minutes of the Annual Meeting from Deerhurst, the year-end Financial Statements prepared by Kerr Financial may be obtained by emailing: sjohnstoncwsga@rogers.com, and a list of Trophy Winners.  I thank New Brunswick President Jennie Duncan for her term on the executive, which expired last fall.  On behalf of the CWSGA, I also thank our administrative assistant, Sheila Johnston, who has handled our communication so effectively.

After some discussion and member feedback, the executive will publish a print copy of the roster, as well as an online version, as initiated in 2012.  Please make sure that your provincial secretary and Sheila Johnson receive any change in contact information by May 1 at the latest.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the Chateau Montebello, September 2 – 6, 2014.  We will be hosting 12 members of the US Seniors in competition for the Ann Taylor Green Trophy, and it will be a pleasure to welcome them to this historic resort.

Do enjoy the rest of the winter.  Apparently spring is just around the corner!

With warmest regards,

Gail Todgham
National President

We had 42 Ladies for a Super Bowl Party and 45 Golfers who by all accounts enjoyed their golfing experience at Piper’s Landing. The weather was very co-operative, food delicious. It was fun to see our CSWGA friends from the other Provinces.
Congratulations to all the winners, they are listed below. Two new Members were able to join us, Janet Saddler and Karen Moore- Gough.
Thank you to Bonnie Pattee for taking all the great pictures.
Please enjoy the rest of your winter where ever you choose to be.

Florida Satellite Update

Hi Everyone:
I can’t believe the Tournament is only a week away. Sheila has posted driving instructions from various areas of Florida to both the Hotel and Piper’s Landing on this blog site.  Please also use your GPS and MapQuest. I have included the address and telephone numbers of both my house and that of the Club House.
The Super Bowl Party is at Piper’s. It will start around 5:00 p.m. It has been billed as a tailgate party. The dress is casual attire, they are allowing jeans/shorts and my all-time favorite Football attire etc.
If you want to arrive early and come over to Piper’s in the daylight to familiarize yourselves with the driving route, everyone is invited to my home for an Open House and small tours of Piper’s.
Monday morning we have an EARLY SHOTGUN at 8:00 a.m., Registration and Breakfast will be served commencing at 6:30 a.m... Please plan to arrive early so you can eat, register and practice.
Looking forward to our 1st Annual Satellite Tournament.
